That’s a wrap

Is it bad if you are the lighting guy on a film set and can’t find the chord that connects the lights to the generator? I’m guessing the answer is yes but nonetheless it was exactly what happened to me tonight on our final night of shooting – D’oh!

I had to light an old deserted farm house this evening (think dust-covered furniture left to ruin, dead birds on the window cills, holes in the floor) as well as the exterior of the house from a far. By the time I finished setting up the lights it was dark and couldn’t find the right plugs to have it all looking fabulous before the actors and Maida arrived after re-shooting the boom gate scene (no sign of the ghost there either btw). Instead I was left scurrying around like a mad women with a pocket torch no bigger than a stick of glue.

The farm house!

After some help from Hilde we got up and running though and I was pretty pleased with my efforts in the end. My biggest concern was the light outside which took on a lot of rain. Usually they spark, fizzle and short out if they get too wet so it was a constant battle to make sure the makeshift tarps we constructed over top of them didn’t then touch the camera, heat up and catch on fire!

The last couple of scenes tonight involved some extras – a group of Vibeke’s friends – who had to sing a Swedish birthday song to celebrate “Brede’s” birthday. They were great fun and to their credit kept their energy levels up right until the last take.

The moment we had all been waiting for was a stabbing scene through, where a special effects guy had to come in and create a dummy that fake blood would spew out of when stabbed by a large knife.

It was the last scene so the costumes wouldn’t get ruined. It was awesome!! I can’t tell you who stabbed who thou!!
