Last day

Wow, my last day in Kosovo. It has come around so quickly and I feel like I have not even scratched the surface. I don’t feel ready to leave and wish there was some way around it but alas, all good things come to an end.

Roza and I, along with a lovely Serbian woman called Katarina, headed out to Srbobran with Sabri again this morning to pick up the remain batch of bags from the Roma women out there.

En route who stopped by Fushe Kosove to run a few errands where I snapped a pic of this building. Some of you may recognise it as Shtëpia e Kulturës (Hall of Culture or town hall).

It was where, in April 1987 and again in 1989 on the 600th anniversary of the Battle of Kosovo, Slobodan Milošević, as Chairman of the League of Communists of Serbia, spoke to a crowd of angry Serbs telling them, amongst other things: “No one has the right to beat you…. No one will beat you ever.” The appearances earned Milošević the respect of the Serbian people, propelling him to President, and… resulted in war.

When we arrived in Srbobran, there were quite a few more kids milling around than last time. They seemed intrigued by me and my blond hair and would giggle like crazy every time I looked at them (perhaps I had something hanging out my nose?). They were keen as mustard to have their photo taken when I whipped out my camera to take some snaps of the surrounding area.

Afterwards we stopped in the small town of Istog, famed for its fish, where we enjoyed a delicious seafood meal. A lovely way to finish my time in this country. 🙂
