Channelling my inner billy goat

The Great Wall. Wow. We got our first glimpse this morning of what lies ahead for the big race on Saturday, and all I can say is thank God for my bestie Shirley and her boyfriend Dave for dragging me up Mt Lofty most weekends for the last four months!!! I had been concerned about the stairs in this race but with my training in Hong Kong these past few weeks the stairs are the least of my concerns. The biggest challenge is going to be the off-road terrain that you have to pass to get on and off the wall. One word – steep! So I’ve begun channelling my inner billy goat and will continue to do so until 7.30am Saturday. I have no idea what that entails exactly – how does one act like a billy goat? But I did go for extra greens at dinner tonight!! Nuts, I know, but I’ll take any advantage I can get!

The scenery on and around the Wall is spectacular. Very lush. Photos could never do it justice. I am incredibly excited about the run. Every competitor has an amazing story – one guy has completed all 12 Great Wall Marathons, and another woman is doing it with one leg

– A-Mazing!

This is the first time ever the event has had a capacity field – 2000 competitors but just 581 of them are attempting the full marathon. If I can finish it will put me in a very small category of just 3766 people who have crossed the line triumphant. Fingers crossed.
Be well.
