February – Taiwan
I want to ride my bicycle, I want to ride my bike.
Life is like riding a bicycle. To keep your balance you must keep moving ~ Albert Einstein, scientist
The Plan: To spend one month riding a bicycle around Taiwan, exploring the topography and seeing the sites.
When I was about 11, my sister and I taught my brother to ride his bicycle without training wheels. We spent the best part of two hours in a vacant paddock across the road from our home running alongside of him and his bike, holding him steady, until eventually he could do it all on his own. I can still remember the look on his face. There is nothing quite like the simple pleasure of riding a bicycle with the wind in your face. I have been moving almost continuously for the last 10 months, but I feel the need to dedicate some time once again to exercise. Thankfully the Taiwanese Government seems to have gone out of its way to satisfy my desire.
Fast facts:
-In 2012, thousands of kilometres of bike paths, including two round-the-island routes, will be linked up thanks to infrastructure provided by the Taiwanese authorities.
